An Odd Place to Find a Bulldog Shovel!

Posted in: Bulldog Tools Ltd, Archive

One of our readers asked 'What's one of the oddest places a Bulldog tool has been used?'

Bulldog shovels are used all over the world for many different purposes. This video shows a submarine surfacing in Antartica. As the crew exit and begin clearing the snow you can see that the shovel is one of ours! A Bulldog!

If you would like to come and see how solid forged, top quality tools are manufactured we would be delighted to take you on a tour of our factory. You can also become a friend of Bulldog Tools on Facebook.

I noticed that your product of the week this week (w/c 9th Feb) is a nursery man's spade. It looks very impressive, but what is it used for? Simon.

Hi Simon, Thanks for your question. The nurseryman's spade is one of the strongest spades which we manufacture. Its main use is a spade for planting trees. The shape of the blade allows holes to be dug easily and accurately, as well as this the strapping of the spade increases the strength so that it can cope with the large amounts of pressure involved. This is why the nurseryman's spade has also been known as a 'tree planting spade.' Hope that answers your question! Clarington

Wow, i'd never seen a submarine rise like that, incredible that bulldog shovels are used in those conditions. Ive still got the bulldog shovel my father gave me, bit old now, but still does the job!! Keep up the good work :)

I have watched the fantastic shovelling ability of the Bulldog spade in the ice. I have been in catering for a number of years and currently operate a large scale bread bakery. I am speculating the advantages of a Bulldog shovel to mix our dough over the current efficiency of our Spear & Jackson super stainless steel spade that we are using at present.

We suggest that you use one of our aluminium grain shovels or stainless steel pedigree tools. Did you know that Bulldog shovels are so tough that they were used to dig the channel tunnel?? Clarington

I bought one of the shrubbery forks that you are featuring as your product of the week when I was at Hampton Court last year. It is brilliant. The size of the head makes it easy to get between plants and the fact that it is such a small tool makes turning the soil so much easier. A good tool.
