The annual GLEE show at the NEC in Birmingham is undoubtedly the biggest exhibition of the year for garden retailers. This year’s event was no different and buyers from the biggest UK garden centres, DIY centres and gardening shops all attended the show looking for the industry’s best products. Visitors to the Bulldog stand, which is pictured, were given the chance to view both the established Premier range as well as our stunning new Pedigree tools. We were really encouraged by all the positive comments we received over the three days and hope that Bulldog tools will be stocked in even more British stores in 2017!
The Windlesham Trophy
The Windlesham Trophy is the annual gardening competition run by the Ministry of Justice and the Royal Horticultural Society for prisons in the UK. It was founded in 1983 by Lord Windlesham to give prisoners a sense of worth and to promote gardening excellence. The trophy is an old fire engine bell and is awarded by the RHS President, Sir Nicholas Bacon who heads the judging panel on behalf of the Royal Horticultural Society. The competition gives prisoners, who have often had little or no experience of horticulture, the chance to work in a new environment with many of the prisons also offering qualifications which prisoners can use to find employment once released. This year’s winners were HMP Wymott in Lancashire who received a range of Bulldog Premier Tools as well as the prestigious trophy. Their gardens which are located all around the prison estate include a formal garden, fruit and vegetable production, a relaxation plot and a large water garden.
Bulldog in Germany
The beginning of the month saw Bulldog exhibiting at the Spoga Gafa garden trade fair in Cologne for the first time. The show includes some of the biggest gardening brands in the world, running from 4th to 6th September and featuring for the first time our fabulous new Pedigree range of tools. Visitors to the stand not only got our usual friendly Bulldog welcome, but also received a free ‘Hugo’ biscuit! You can find out more about the Bulldog Pedigree range here.
Our friend, TV Producer Pete Lawrence has just launched ‘The Allotment Cookbook’ – a book which focuses on growing your own food and eating it no matter what the season or time of year. Pete loves our Bulldog tool ranges and uses them as he tends his plot. He is pictured here with his trusty stainless steel Pedigree digging spade. Pete works with TV cooks Nigel Slater, Simon Hopkinson, Nigella Lawson, Michel Roux Jnr, The Hairy Bikers, James Martin, Lorraine Pascale, Rachel Khoo and Brian Turner, so he really knows his onions! To find out more about his book, please visit Pete’s website at: www.digthisfood.co.uk – you won’t regret it.
